Project Runway: Three Strikes and Your Are Out

I feel a certain disconnect between the judges and I about our friend Mila, but alas I am getting ahead of myself.

The Challenge: Make a dress for a Fashion Week gala incorporating a really hideous red and white Campbell’s labeled fabric for real women who had some heart related injury.  This was in conjunction with the Go Red For Women campaign.  Heart disease is the number one killer of women.  Be good to your heart, girls.   The designers were given $100 to get additional red fabric which Mood had already set aside for them.  No running around.

AmySarabi's Project Runway gown

The Winner: Amy Sarabi.  I thought this dress should have been a winner. It was gorgeous.  I would buy a gown like this.  I thought this Butterick pattern was the closest.  The bodice is similar.  You would have to sew two dresses, a chiffon overlay and a charmeuse under dress.

Guest Judge: Georgina Chapman, designer for Marchesa and wife of Project Runway producer, Harvey Weinstein.

Loser: The loser was Jesus.  This was the third time the judges questioned his taste level.  Bad taste always trumps bad design.   Taste is something you can’t learn says Michael Kors and thus, Jesus was out.

Additional thoughts:  Only Mila’s incorporated the challenge but her dress reminded me of the scene in Pollyanna where Pollyanna comes out in a tube of fabric and she forms part of the US flag.  Maya’s dress looked like something Wonder Woman would wear.  My friend said that the gold looked like a snake was eating the model’s boob.

Remember the Hershey challenge.  Rami won it.  Those designs really incorporated the fabric of the Hershey candy.  One was even made out of licorice.  The designers in this episode seem so bereft of creativity and talent.

Rami Winner Hershey Challenge

Final note: Lifetime, your website is a disgrace.   None of your links work to the profiles of your designers.  There are dozens of links that don’t work in featured areas.  You are ruining my favorite show and can’t even put together a decent website.

  1. I was in agreement about the winner. I thought that the other top 2 contestants should have been in the bottom, however. The Star-tastrophe and the Frump Fest were awful.

I figured when Michael Kors said that Jesus lacked taste and you couldn’t teach taste, Jesus was a goner.

This was the worst challenge of the season. Seriously, the potato sacks allowed for more creativity. Combining soup and heart health and fashion was a big, hot mess.

  2. I fell asleep during the commercial before the runway show. That probably tells you what a yawn fest the episode was. Thankfully, I dvr’d the episode and I thought the winning dress was very pretty. Jesus’s dress was a hot mess.

And I do remember the episode that Rami won and how all the designers incoprorated the product. I loved the licorice skirt!

This season sucketh so far. I might have to give up PR if it doesn’t improve.

  3. @Annmarie – It didn’t even seem like a challenge, more like, make a fancy red dress.

@Jaci Burton – I’m counting down the days when Top Chef returns.
